Synopsis
Across the world, land, food and ecosystems are under pressure and shaped by systems that extract, displace and prioritize profit over life. And yet, communities continue to resist, protect and rebuild. This evening brings those struggles into focus. A diverse panel of scholars will share songs that speak to resistance, care and possibility within agrarian struggles, land rights and environmental justice.Through their selections, they reflect on how communities are defending ecosystems, pushing back against extractive power and reimagining how we live with the natural world.

Synopsis
A diverse panel of Black scholars from different disciplines spoke about songs that speak to resistance, care and possibility in their lives and work.
Together, they moved through a timeline of music by Black artists, listening closely to song excerpts and how sound carries histories of struggle and joy, remembrance and imagination. Each speaker will reflect on their chosen song and its resonance within their academic journey, opening space for collective listening and in-depth conversation.
At its heart, this evening recognizes Black resistance as a diasporic legacy – one that offers tools, knowledge and pathways for navigating and shaping a changing world. This thought-provoking event creates space across academic, artistic and cultural communities.
